Writing Update

Thought I’d offer a quick update of what Marian and I have been working on recently.

Our writing partnership is currently on hiatus, mostly due to a career change on Marian’s part, that has her traveling for work about 95% of her time. We still get together whenever she’s in the SF Bay Area, but those occasions are unfortunately infrequent.

At present, we’re both working on solo projects. Marian reports that she’s been trying to finish up some old unfinished short stories, novellas, and scripts, as well as working on a supernatural mystery centered around figures from Greek mythology.

I recently finished the first draft of an epic fantasy novel (which started life as a historical novel set on the northern frontier of the Roman Empire in the first century A.D., then rapidly mutated into pure fantasy…becoming a love-letter to Japanese anime in the process). I’m currently about halfway through the second draft, which is over 500 pages long, and hoping to have something to submit to publishers by the end of the year.  I also need a title, since the working title, The Wolf Prince, really isn’t applicable any longer.

Work on the sequel is progressing as well. The second book in the series is tentatively titled The Queen’s Orphan, and will carry the story through the war that began in The Wolf Prince, with a  few new characters, including the enemy commander. I’ve been reading up on military history and famous generals to prepare…just finished a biography of Hannibal, who was a really interesting person, and am about to start reading Julius Caesar’s Gallic Wars.
